Piercello's reading list

This post provides a handy list of books in various fields which have added significant pieces to my emerging structural understanding of human nature (which I will someday post about!), thus aiding my attempts to articulate it. Trying to describe the structure of a system without words for the concepts at its organizational heart is terribly difficult, and these books in particular have helped expand my vocabulary.

"The Demon-Haunted World" (1996) by Carl Sagan
“Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid” (1979) by Douglas Hofstadter
"Chaos" (1987) by James Gleick
"Complexity" (1992) by M. Mitchell Waldrop
"The Fabric of the Cosmos" (2004) by Brian Greene
"The Transparent Society" (1998) by David Brin
"The Wisdom of Crowds" (2004) by James Suroweicki
"The Mystery of Capital" (2000) by Hernando de Soto
"On Intelligence" (2004) by Jeff Hawkins, with Sandra Blakeslee
"Guns, Germs, and Steel" (1997) by Jared Diamond
"Mother Nature: Maternal Instincts and How They Shape the Human Species" (1999) by Sarah Blaffer Hrdy
"Dreadnaught" (1991) and "Castles of Steel" (2003) by Robert K. Massie
Any and all histories written by Barbara Tuchman

This is by no means exhaustive (it completely skips over my large science fiction collection, among other sections), but it's a start.
